Maintenance work on the run-out track of an existing ski jump

Maintenance of ski jumping hills

We service the technical equipment of existing ski jumping hills. The work is outside regular training operations, usually during the season preparation.

When maintenance on a ski jumping hill becomes necessary

Typical occasions are planned season preparation, visible wear, or changes noticed during operation. We check cooling systems in midsummer. Only at high outside temperatures does the machine run under full load, in winter never.

Which technology is included in maintenance

Maintenance includes run-out track, cooling, winches, milling technology, and steel construction. Before each training, our operating manual also provides for a visual inspection of the track by the operator: foreign objects, visible obstructions, changes. It does not replace technical maintenance.

Inspection of the approach track, cooling system and substructure at a ski jump

This is how maintenance of a ski jumping hill works

  1. Clarify the system and scope

We collect location, hill type, installed technology, available documents and the reason for maintenance.

  2. Prepare location

The operator provides access to the cooling system, winch, track and other affected assemblies. During maintenance, the track remains unused. Waste generated during the work is disposed of at the site by the operator.

  3. Check and service components

We inspect the condition, function and settings of the individual components and their interaction.

  1. Classify deviations

If damage becomes apparent, we say whether a replacement part is sufficient, a repair is necessary, or the system must be modernized.

  2. Record results and next tasks

The operator receives the result and knows which work is next.

When maintenance no longer suffices

  • Maintenance

Condition, adjustment and function of the existing technology are preserved to the agreed extent.

  • Repair

A damaged part or a failed component is repaired or replaced.

  • Modernization

Approach track, cooling, control, milling technique or substructure are adapted to a new technical or operational requirement. Not only age decides, but condition and planned use.

  • Inspection

An independent inspection, for example on a winch, assesses the plant within the defined scope of inspection and records the result.

Frequently asked questions about ski jump maintenance

What belongs to the maintenance of a ski jumping hill?

Depending on the system and maintenance contract, the approach track, cooling, winches, milling technology, steel construction, and individual wear parts may be included. The exact scope is clarified before deployment.

Does Peter Riedel GmbH also service existing hill facilities?

Yes. For the initial classification we need the location, hill type, installed technology, existing documents and the occasion.

How often must a ski jumping hill be maintained?

Maintenance contract, operating instructions, manufacturer documents, determine usage and condition the required work and their timing.

What must the operator prepare for maintenance?

The concrete requirements are set out in the maintenance contract. Typically we need free access to the affected assemblies. The track may not be used during the work. Additional tasks will be agreed for the respective site.

What influences maintenance costs?

The size and condition of the facility, accessibility, scope of maintenance, affected systems, replacement needs, travel, duration of use, and documentation are decisive.

When does maintenance become modernization?

If the existing technology is to be modified for a new use or technical requirement. This can concern run-out guide, cooling, control, milling technology, or substructure.
