Tirak winch with rope guidance at the scaffold installation in Innsbruck

Winch inspection with experience in lifting and winch technology

Peter Riedel GmbH tests hoists and crane winches directly at the facility. Defects go into the test protocol. If necessary, maintenance or repair follows.

Request inspection Describe the system briefly

Winch inspection for hoisting and pulling winches

The crane winch test includes technical inspection and documentation of the result. In addition, we inspect chain hoists and lifting gear such as slings, lifting straps, or lashing belts as separate hoisting equipment.

Complete crane installations are handled separately. After the inspection you will receive a documented finding. We note which deficiencies exist and which technical step is next. If a repair is not sensible, we advise on procurement and commissioning of a new lifting or pulling winch.

When winches must be inspected

Legal basis
DGUV Regulation 54 and 55
Determination
by the operator in the hazard assessment
Initial commissioning
after assembly, before the first use
Recurring
at least annually
Inspection-mandated change
before the next use
Extraordinary event
before further use
After restoration
if it can affect safety
Shorter deadline
under high stress or noticeable examiner results

How the winch inspection works with us

  1. Clarify documents and scope of testing

We assign operating manual, previous inspections and changes to the device. We check whether the documents are plausible and fit the operation of the winch.

  2. Technically inspect winches

We examine condition, supporting structure, rollers, load-bearing construction, and safety devices. We test functionalities and brakes within the defined scope. In doing so, we document damage, wear, corrosion, and changes to the equipment.

  1. Record findings and defects

We record the scope of inspection, results, and any defects in the test protocol. If work is required, we clarify maintenance, repair, or replacement of the winch.

What we inspect on winches

  • Device and supporting structure

We examine frames, fastenings, rollers, and accessible parts of the supporting structure for damage, wear, corrosion, and changes.

  • Cables, chains, and slings

We inspect testing medium such as ropes and chains as well as existing load hooks for wear, corrosion, deformations and other detectable damages.

  • Functions and brakes

We check operating functions, sequence of movements, and brakes. We perform load tests when they are necessary for the device and the defined inspection scope.

  • Protection and safety devices

We check existing protective and safety devices for completeness, condition, and function. Deviations are recorded in the inspection report.

Frequently asked questions about winch testing

What determines the cost of a winch inspection?

Determine equipment type, quantity, location, accessibility, documents and inspection purpose to assess the effort. With these details we clarify the scope of the inspection and prepare your offer.

Who conducts the winch inspection personally?

Peter Riedel conducts the winch inspection himself. As a person qualified for inspections, he is qualified for winches, lifting, and pulling devices. The certificates come from Haus der Technik.

What information does Peter Riedel GmbH need before the inspection appointment?

For preparation we need the type of equipment, manufacturer, location and the purpose of the inspection. Useful are operating manuals, previous inspection records, and details of changes or repairs.

What documents will you receive after our winch inspection?

You will receive a documented inspection report with type, scope and result of the inspection, as well as the name and signature of the qualified person. For certain power-driven rope and chain hoists we also record the result in the inspection log.

What do we take over in case of defects of the winch?

We document the defect in the inspection report and classify the next technical step. Depending on the findings, we undertake maintenance, repair, or the procurement of a new winch.
