From Trondheim to Oslo! Mastertrack on the road
The old approach rail from Trondheim is being given new life! For the first time in the history of Peter Riedel GmbH, a Mastertrack rail is dismantled, completely renewed and reused.
The old approach rail from Trondheim is being given new life! For the first time in the history of Peter Riedel GmbH, a Mastertrack rail is dismantled, completely renewed and reused. If that isn’t living sustainability!
Short retrospective: For the 2025 World Cup in Trondheim, nothing should be left to chance. Therefore the Granasen Ski Center in Trondheim is currently undergoing a rejuvenation including the construction of new jump facilities. But discarding the old, still intact approach rail was not an issue for the environmentally conscious Norwegians. The sustainable mindset of the Norse sparked the idea to continue selling the rail. Their offer fell on fertile ground with the Oslo Municipality, which was simultaneously looking for a rail for the Midtstuen Bakken. The rail modules were still in very good condition, so ‘Reuse’ instead of ‘Recycle’ left nothing to be desired!
Last autumn, after dismantling in Trondheim, the rail was brought to Raschau at our company, where it was cleaned, refurbished and damaged parts were replaced. By October the rail components should have traveled again to Norway to be used, 500 kilometers south at the Midtstubakken in Oslo for their new - old - purpose. However, an early winter had other plans — the next attempt would take place this spring after snowmelt.
Earlier this week it was time! As quickly as winter came last year, summer is already sending its harbingers in April to the Norwegian capital — Oslo greeted us with summer-like 20 degrees and ideal weather, so our “rail transfer” is all set! The rail modules were delivered last autumn, so our task now was to place the rail elements precisely on the substructure, level them, set them millimeter by millimeter, align and mount them—this is the be-all and end-all for the rail to function correctly. In the future, Continental Cup events and other international competitions can be held at the highest level at Midtstuen Bakken.
“The work is progressing very well; if everything goes as planned, we will be finished by early May,” says Peter Riedel an initial construction site report.
The engineer continues to emphasize the importance of sustainability in his company. “Sustainability is very important to us. Reusing an old, but still very well preserved rail perfectly fits the zeitgeist. Such a project is living sustainability, because good quality does not have to be thrown away, but can and should be reused,” Riedel enthuses about the idea and already has more sustainability projects in sight.
