Post text: For almost two years now, Tellerhäuser in the Ore Mountains has been adorned by a winter sports monument of a somewhat different kind. A 3.7-meter-high stainless steel snowman, lovingly crafted by the metal construction and stainless steel smithy of Peter Riedel GmbH. Composed of three finest stainless steel spheres with a diameter of 1.7 meters and a total weight of 500 kilograms, it has pointed hikers and athletes to the Wander- and cross-country area at the Fichtelberg and the Gottgab (Gotthelf) area in the Czech Republic all year round. But now the “colossus” of stainless steel has found a new home. Today, Saturday, he, lightly dressed with a red scarf, took his new place at a prominent spot at Cafe König in the middle of the spa town of Oberwiesenthal. Given these dimensions and weight, it was not an easy undertaking; a truck and crane were required. However, the new location in Oberwiesenthal at Cafe König on Poststraße, which provides direct access from the train station to the ski slope, is ideal for drawing attention. The owner of Cafe König, Frank Weber, and Peter Riedel share a long friendship.

“We already dismantled him in August in Tellerhäuser and gave him two polished arms and a welcome sign. For me, it’s important that he now has his new place in my hometown, where I spent most of my childhood. I have known Frank for a long time and have already implemented a few things in steel construction for him. I am glad that the snowman now has a new place in front of his cafe. The snowman embodies the longing for winter sports in Oberwiesenthal and should bring joy to visitors, vacationers, and athletes all year round. Many children or adults will be reminded of how a snowman used to be built. For many, that has faded from memory. By the way, he is globally the largest of his kind,” he enthuses. Peter Riedel nostalgic as the truck with the snowman rolled away from his yard.
