65 days of pure construction time, 44 tons of steel, 1.5 years of preparation

These are the key figures of our largest project to date, which we officially completed yesterday! It concerns the renovation of the ski jump facility in Trondheim, which, on the occasion of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2025, received a radical rejuvenation.

The large project includes the entire steel construction with the starting ramps of the normal hill and the large hill, the stair and beam systems, the track irrigation systems, the ice milling and wind systems, as well as all banners and guardrails. Last Friday the final inspection and official handover to the operator Trondheim BYDRIFT took place.

We are very proud that not a single defect or objection was found during the handover – which can occur in projects of this size. As the saying goes, everything runs smoothly and as it should. Hi-Tec and energy efficiency also determine the future in our sector. Thus, we stayed true to our motto this time as well: continuously developing our technology. In Trondheim we are therefore waiting with two new innovations.

We are bringing even more Hi-Tec into the facility and increasing its efficiency. This refers to the world's first remote maintenance system. We can access the cooling system from anywhere in the world, read and change various parameters, and intervene if the technology does not operate as planned. We have invested a lot of money and time to gain more know-how in control technology. Efficiency and economy will be further increased, an absolute must in times of the climate crisis.

These innovations we combined with an even more economical cooling technology. A new refrigerant performs more efficiently with lower energy consumption. All of this makes the Trondheim installation the most modern and economically efficient slope and cooling system in the world.

At the same time, the milling machine was overhauled and equipped with a so-called "Forerunner". With the Forerunner – literally precursor – this refers to a brushing system that can be used independently of the milling machine to sweep the track. Summer or winter, it makes the work of the jump operators and coaches easier; the broom no longer has to be used by hand.

The time in Trondheim was very intensive. My team and I stood on the construction site in all weather – and I tell you, it rained a lot – to move and install tons of steel. At the same time it was a very nice time. When you are allowed to realize such a big project together, there are few things that can top it. If we drive off on Tuesday with all our bags to the ferry in Oslo and head home, it is just a farewell for now. At the latest when the facility is put into operation and the first jumpers venture down, I will stand proudly at the boards.

I would like to thank everyone involved for the great cooperation and trust! The biggest thanks go to my team, my client NCC, and Trondheim Municipality, without whom none of this would have been possible.

I look forward to future cooperation with the ski jump operator Trondheim Bydrift. We have a long history together for many years and will now write the story further – I’m looking forward to it!

There is still a lot to do at the Trondheim jump facilities; preparations for the Nordic skiing spectacle continue at full speed. Slowly you can see something great taking shape. Paired with the falling temperatures of the last days, you can already feel a touch of World Championship atmosphere.

Yours, Peter Riedel
