Trondheim wants Nordic World Ski Championships 2021. The summer shows: they are ready!
Since Sochi 2014, the winter sports world is mainly talking about one thing: who will win the bid for the next Olympic Games 2022? Many people wish for Oslo, but Oslo is not even sure if it still wants it.
Since Sochi 2014, the winter sports world is mainly talking about one thing: who will win the bid for the next Olympic Games 2022? Many people wish for Oslo, but Oslo is not even sure if it still wants it. In the shadow of the hotly debated capital, the Trondheim, located 500 km north, has gradually developed into a similarly popular and professional winter sports host – and all with full support from the municipality. No wonder Trondheim already has an eye on the year before possible Olympic Games in Oslo: in 2021 the Nordic World Ski Championships will be held – and Trondheim has recently decided to bid, after numerous investments in sports infrastructure.
The 180,000-person city already seems ready for its second big appearance after the Nordic World Ski Championships 1997. This is already evident this summer: for the first time in a long while, skiers and ski jumpers from all over the world once again descend on Trondheim for summer training. Since the hill replaced its old plastic studs on the approach with new, high-quality porcelain studs, the previously dormant summer training in Trondheim has come back to life.
“You can simply see that quality wins out. Quality I can personally vouch for. The Trondheim hill now offers uniform approach conditions at the highest level. Athletes appreciate such professional conditions,” explains Peter Riedel, head of Peter Riedel Sports Technology GmbH, about the development in Norway. “Trondheim has my full support for their bid. The municipality has shown that it stands behind this plan, and the investments in the sport facilities of the last years simply underline that Trondheim is thinking ahead. I will support their bid at the FIS Congress in Mexico City in 2016 with all my might!”
