Diary from Barcelona Day 2 - The king abdicates, the New Year’s jump is prolonged, and there is applause!

BARCELONA, June 3, 2014 – The King of Spain resigns. Such information naturally leaves traces when staying at the Rey Juan Carlos I Hotel. Last night this was among the topics at the reception of the Spanish Ski Association, with which the 49th FIS Congress was officially opened.

Today there was the first presentation of the trailer “Peter Riedel Sports Technology” at the FIS Committee for Ski Jumping. The attention was high, the interest great. Our flyers were as popular as hot buns. Applause — Applause for our performance here in Spain.

During this committee meeting, the World Cup schedules for the next season were presented. In the 2014/15 season one can experience ski jumping on Riedel tracks both in summer and winter. This applies, among others, to the venues Hinzenbach (AUT) and Nischny Tagil (RUS). For the first time, the opening jump of the Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf is moved to Sunday, 28.12. In Garmisch-Partenkirchen there will therefore be an extra training day for the field on 30.12. This makes the New Year’s Jump an additional challenge for our company this time. The track does not have to be perfect for two days but for three days – and it will be!

Another topic of conversation in Barcelona is the 2019 World Championship. Who will receive the acclaim? The bidders are Oberstdorf, Planica (considered light favorites), Seefeld and Almaty. In their inviting presentation booths they all offer delectable culinary delights. But the stomachs of the Council members who have to make this decision will probably not decide.
