The Ski Jumping World Championships 2022 will be held in Vikersund, which personally makes me very happy—there, on a run-up ramp of my company, a world record was flown! Vikersund is the only candidate for these titles, which are always awarded in the rotation among the Norwegians, Oberstdorf (GER), Kulm (AUT), Harrachov (TCH), and Planica (SLO).
Planica is also bidding for the Nordic World Ski Championship 2023 and is thus the sole competitor to Trondheim. I wholeheartedly root for the Scandinavian host city of 1997, as the jump here is one of our flagship and reference projects. But the Norwegians, like me, know how the odds stand: fifty-fifty. After all, the most successful female winter athlete at the Olympic Games is promoting Trondheim. Nordic skiing goddess Marit Bjørgen won 15 medals in five Winter Games (8 gold/4 silver/3 bronze), but in Greece she is at a FIS congress for the first time. Maybe she will tip the scales!
Many conversations and greetings round off our FIS Congress kickoff; it is nice to meet many old and a few new faces and advocate for my cause: fair and safe sport on the hills of this world.
