This weekend marked the launch of the 100-year celebrations of the Oberwiesenthal traditional business Cafe König. The Club Czech-German Partnership was a guest, using the weekend for a joint trip and pitched their tents in Cafe König.

The Czech-German Partnership Club is an organization that promotes exchange and understanding between Czechs and Germans. It originated from informal meetings where German and Czech were taught to each other, and gradually developed into a club. In addition to job placements, interpreter services and partnerships, city trips and visits to interesting places on both sides of the border are among the main activities of the club.

More than 1000 years ago parts of Germany and the Czech Republic were united as the Kingdom of Bohemia. The spa town of Oberwiesenthal lies exactly in this region and is today strongly shaped by its proximity to the Czech border. Therefore it is only natural that the club chose this historic site for its next activity.

The program of events covered a wide range of topics. My father Eberhard Riedel shared anecdotes during a group hike on the Fichtelberg. With his old stories, the 35 participants from Germany and the Czech Republic embarked on a mental time journey. The K3 Museum in Oberwiesenthal then offered fascinating insights into the spa town's sports history.

A joint dinner at Cafe König and lectures by me about the world's most beautiful ski jumping hills and my book 'Traces of Success' rounded off a more than successful outing for this wonderful cultural association.

Such meetings are immensely important and serve as a strong bridge between cultures. Mutual understanding and cooperation between Czechs and Germans is strengthened and the shared past is revived.

Great that my friend Frank also supports this idea so wonderfully and has offered his Cafe König as a excursion destination for the club meeting. It was a truly successful kick-off for the 100-year celebrations and I am very curious what will come next!
