Summer ski jumping at the Munich Outdoor Sports Festival

“Be there and discover your sport!” — this motto drew around 55,000 visitors last Sunday on a sunny day with summer temperatures to the second Munich Outdoor Sports Festival in Munich Olympiapark. Around 60 outdoor activities from classic to trendy were ready to test around the Olympiaberg, the Olympiasee, the Olympiastadium and Coubertinplatz. In the midst of the hustle and bustle stood again this year the mobile K4 jump ramp from Peter Riedel GmbH. Together with the Bavarian Ski Association and SC Auerbach, work was in full swing at the ramp. Because 568 children and adults took the chance to try ski jumping themselves.
“Our jumpers were a colorful mix. The youngest was only 4 years old, the oldest around 40, but everyone had a lot of fun under great conditions,” explains Wolfgang Riedel, who welcomed the jumpers at the run-out. “For the real jump feeling we had this time, besides the cut jump skis with alpine bindings for the ‘beginners’, also jump skis with proper ski jumping bindings for the ‘advanced.’”
Although winter seemed far away at 24°C, the snow from the neighboring ice rink provided the perfect basis for snowy fun. Jumping was almost nonstop, and some fans like eight-year-old Madeleine from Munich jumped multiple times from the Bakken. “It’s a lot of fun. I could imagine becoming a ski jumper,” she said excitedly, shouldered her skis like a pro, to head again for the takeoff.
