Ski jumping legend Jens Weißflog fights for the title on the K4 hill on the beach of Zinnowitz

ZINNOWITZ - Ski jumping on the beach in midsummer? No, this is not a climate change future vision, but a unique project of the spa town of Oberwiesenthal, which presents itself to summer vacationers as a winter sports destination on the beach of Zinnowitz from July 22 to 24, 2016.  

Last held in 2004, four hoteliers from Oberwiesenthal and four local partners bring the snow magic of the Fichtelberg back to Zinnowitz's beach promenade. The special highlight is the K4 hill by Peter Riedel GmbH, on which beachgoers exchange snorkels and flip-flops for ski helmets and ski jumping boots and even try skiing themselves. 

"Building the hill in the middle of midsummer on a beach is not only a fun project, but an application of Oberwiesenthal's snow safety in winter," explains Peter Riedel about his commitment to the project. Together with the four hoteliers (AHORN Hotel, Elldus Resort, Jens Weißflog Apartment Hotel and Rathaushotels Oberwiesenthal) as well as the Fichtelberg Cable Car, the Oberwiesenthal Ski School, and the Oberwiesenthal Lift Company, his company promotes the Fichtelberg as a snow-safe winter sports destination. Due to the newly upgraded snowmaking system, snow safety and ski lift operation on the Fichtelberg are guaranteed from mid-December to the end of March. 

"It is especially important to promote it given the mild winters of recent years, because we not only have great snow conditions, but also first-class winter sports competitions on the Fichtelberg," says Riedel.  

For sports fans, the event in Zinnowitz is already a true highlight, because ski jumping Olympic champion Jens Weißflog will return to the hill as part of the Zinnowitz Ski Jump Championship and, together with interested vacationers and hobby jumpers, will compete for the Kurverwaltung Zinnowitz cup.  

"We are very much looking forward to tackling this event together with regional companies. For us, this project is even more beautiful because our hill, together with Jens' commitment, offers real added value and guarantees an incomparable vacation experience for summer guests," says Riedel.
