Last winter, days of snowfall and meter-high fresh snow caused many problems everywhere. This also happened at Kulm, one of the world's largest ski jumping venues, where an avalanche caused significant damage on the take-off.

According to estimates, around 600 cubic meters of snow, whose weight damaged the take-off, partly the glass and steel belts, and parts of the steel construction. Peter Riedel GmbH installed the Master Track take-off at Kulm; in this process the Austrian Ski Association commissioned the take-off damage repair as well. For about a month now, work has been carried out at full speed to restore the normal condition of the track. About two weeks ago, the FIS inspection gave the green light for use of the take-off. The last works were carried out this week and concluded yesterday with the final mounting of the milling machine. In the course of the damage repair, the newly developed safety covers for the milling guide rails were installed - another development that makes jumping for athletes even safer.

Statements:

Jürgen Winkler, Sports Director Kulm: “After the avalanche damage last winter, we have now restored the original condition of the take-off and even gained an update in terms of safety with the new safety cover. The FIS inspection was positive and the take-off is usable again. The Peter and his team's damage repair proceeded smoothly, on schedule and in the usual high quality.”

Mario Stecher, Sports Director ÖSV Nordic Skiing: “Ski flying at Kulm is undoubtedly an important event for the entire Bad Mitterndorf and Ausseerland region. It is a great way to showcase ourselves to a domestic audience and internationally. The new organizing committee team works with absolute dedication; it’s wonderful that there are people who engage so intensely with the Kulm event.”

Peter Riedel, CEO Peter Riedel GmbH: “The works at Kulm were a major challenge, even though you can see the state of the take-off after the avalanche. We are happy that we have now created all prerequisites for the Ski Jump World Cup to take place this winter. For me, as an ÖSV partner, it was an honor to carry out the damage repair at one of the most wonderful ski jumping hills in the world.”
