Damage repair at Kulm in full swing
The past winter was unusually special even for alpine conditions. Day-long snowfall and meter-high fresh snow accumulations were the order of the day, and as beautiful as the white splendor was, it also caused many problems in daily life.
The past winter was unusually special even for alpine conditions. Day-long snowfall and meter-high fresh snow accumulations were the order of the day, and as beautiful as the white splendor was, it also caused many problems in daily life. This also happened at one of the world’s largest ski flying hills, the Kulm, where the snow masses caused great damage on the run-up. The true extent became apparent only after the snowmelt in spring, incredible what forces must have acted on the approach track!
According to our calculations, it was about 600 cubic meters of snow, whose weight damaged the run-up, partly the glass and steel cords as well as parts of the steel construction. Fortunate that no load-bearing parts were affected. Since we had already installed the Master Track run-up at Kulm, the Austrian Ski Association approached us and commissioned us to repair the damage on the run-up. For about two weeks now we have been working with great effort to bring the track back to as good a condition as possible so that Kulm is ready for the official FIS inspection and certification, which will take place in mid-September. So that nothing stands in the way of official ski flight at Kulm in February! Your Peter Riedel
