Ruka is ready for the big Nordic Opening

The wait is over! Finally, the kick-off for the Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined World Cup in Ruka is at the door! Wolfgang and Dirk, two very experienced employees of Peter Riedel GmbH, set off north on Monday. The journey to the Finnish town by the Arctic Circle, located just a few kilometers from the Russian border, proves to be adventurous. Hundreds of kilometers on snow and ice roads through Finnish forests, at most a few reindeer scavenging the barren landscape for something edible.

This year, Ruka is as wintry as ever. Cold temperatures in double digits below zero and a solid white blanket of snow provide the ideal backdrop for the Nordic Opening. For Peter Riedel GmbH, it is already the third support assignment in Ruka. The Master-Track starting groove was given its final polish with the last milling on Wednesday—everything is prepared for a perfect weekend! The Nordic combined athletes kick off with their provisional scoring round on Thursday. From Friday to Sunday, three competitions follow for the Nordic all-rounders. “The track here in Ruka is in perfect condition. Last week I did some training jumps on the ice track at the Bergisel hill; it felt really good again. I look forward to the start and am back in top shape and motivated for the new season,” said the overall World Cup third and three-time World Championship medalist of the past year.
