RASCHAU/DORNBRIΝ, April 3, 2014 – From today, 3 April, to Sunday, April 6, Dornbirn will in the truest sense of the word 'watch.' At the fair, the largest spring fair in Vorarlberg, there is a special eye-catcher. In Hall 5 stands a mobile K4 ski jumping hill from the Peter Riedel company, and Elmar Egg, managing director of the Montafon Nordic Sports Center, confirms: “Even during the setup, the facility drew all eyes. We are curious how many children will test the hill and themselves in these days.”
To emphasize this claim, several other advertising measures were taken, including T-shirts in which 'Vor-Arl-Berg' became 'Vor-Adler-Berg,' and this in the Austrian national colors red-white-red. Egg added: “The message is clear. We want to recruit and promote the new eagles from our federal state.” The T-shirts sold out in no time, and a further batch may be funded by sponsors. “We could use some small prizes to buy materials for junior jumpers or for taster courses,” Elmar Egg says aloud.
“But the K4 at the ‘Show’ should not only anchor the upcoming big event in the minds of the interested parties, but also promote Nordic sports, especially ski jumping,” Egg says hopefully. “We now have a top-modern center, and as many athletes as possible should use it!”
K1 Hill
In the Montafon Nordic Sport Center, due to milder weather conditions, work has continued without interruption in recent months. The K22, K40 and K66 facilities are completed; only the interior furnishings are missing for the functional building. And at the K108 hill, the last touches in the run-out area are currently being completed. The completion announcement has been issued, reports Egg; the first jumps are planned for June. “If everything goes as planned, the facility should be officially opened on June 28.”
This also pleases Peter Riedel. “The work in Montafon has been characterized by exceptional professionalism and simultaneous friendliness. We are very proud to have contributed to the successful development of the Nordic Sports Center in Vorarlberg, especially with regard to the fact that the future of a sport — including ski jumping — lies in the Nachwuchsbereich (youth development). The young athletes are the true treasure of sport. Therefore we see the K4 as a essential part of the Riedel product range.”
The first competition on the new hill facility is already fixed with the Alpencup at the end of September. In talks is to organize the Austrian Championship in the general class, with Schlierenzauer, Morgenstern and others, there as well, at the beginning of October. “And we already have scheduling conflicts,” laughs Egg. “The OSSV, the East Swiss Ski Association, asked whether it could hold its championship with us between the end of September and the beginning of October. We still have to work a little to fit everything together.”
Lately, praise comes from Switzerland from a respected source. Ueli Forrer, OSSV official for ski jumping and Nordic combined, announced that he would have 75 percent of his athletes’ training sessions in Montafon. “Such statements from abroad are, of course, great,” say Egg and Riedel in unison.
And more and more people should be coming to jump at the sports center: hopefully soon also some of those who will discover their love for this sport at the K4 in Dornbirn by Sunday!
A K4 facility from Peter Riedel GmbH stands at Viessmann in Allendorf, where a large celebration for successful German Olympians is taking place; in Dornbirn, children aged six to twelve will be encouraged to ski jump. At the same time, the regions Bregenzerwald and Montafon, the Dornbirn Racing Sports Club, and the Schruns Skimittelschule (which will offer a Nordic track in the coming school year) are presented. And not to be missed are references to the next year’s European Youth Olympic Winter Festival. The EYOWF will take place from 25 to 30 January in Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein.
