Next week the summer Grand Prix of Nordic combined in Oberwiesenthal finally starts! The preparations in the town at the Fichtelberg are in full swing and it has now been confirmed that all top athletes of the winter in Oberwiesenthal will make their appearance. A total of 14 nations have registered for the start of the NoKo summer series, led by the strong German team captained by Eric Frenzel.

The Olympic champion will celebrate his home game at the hill, therefore the organizers call on all Erzgebirge and Saxon fans to come out in large numbers. 'The Fichtelberg, the spa town of Oberwiesenthal and the whole region have the chance to attract worldwide attention with this international event. Therefore we hope as many fans as possible will flock to the hill and to the town to witness this unique large-scale event,' says deputy OK chief Peter Riedel. Plenty of parking is available, and provisions for nourishment are available both at the hill and directly at the market.

With all the commitment the Oberwiesenthal volunteers put into the event, one thing is certain: they want more events of this kind. That Germany's highest hill has been modernized from the ground up can only help this aim. 'We have top sports facilities, a great accompanying program and many dedicated volunteer helpers. If the weather god cooperates, we can show the world what Oberwiesenthal is capable of,' said Riedel. Guests from sports and politics have also confirmed their attendance, and the organizers also want to thank the little and big supporters behind the scenes with Rehau AG, Sparkasse Erzgebirge, the town of Oberwiesenthal and the district.

'Amid all the cheers and celebrations, the event will also pay tribute to the late Jörg Burgmann,' says Riedel about the WSC Erzgebirge Oberwiesenthal board member who passed away in mid-July after a serious illness. 'Jörg worked for this event in recent years and last year pushed for continuing the Summer Grand Prix series. He will be terribly missed. Especially in his memory we want to ensure that the Summer Grand Prix 2014 becomes an event he would have been proud of!'
