RASCHAU/OBERWIESENTHAL, August 4, 2013 – In less than three weeks, on August 24 and 25, the world elite of Nordic combined will once again compete at Oberwiesenthal’s Summer Grand Prix, as in previous years. Names like Jason Lamy Chappuis, Magnus Moan, Bernhard Gruber, and especially the local favorites Eric Frenzel and Björn Kircheisen will race on the Fichtelberg Ski Jump and offer exciting inline races in the town center.

But there is a big difference compared to past times. The Fichtelberg Ski Jump, Germany’s highest-altitude and one of the country’s most prominent Bakken hills, is getting a new look! Major modernization work has been ongoing for months. Among other things, a “Double-Track-System” from Peter Riedel is being installed as a new approach track. This allows riding on a dedicated lane in summer as well as winter and, if climatic conditions permit, easy switching from one starting lane to the other. “It is one of our flagship models,” explains company owner Peter Riedel, “and it is also used in Garmisch-Partenkirchen or in Trondheim in the Ski Jump World Cup.”

Work on the Fichtelberg Ski Jump is in full swing, yet it remains a race against time that we will win, says Riedel. “Not all work will be completed, which is why we are already considering possible transitional solutions with the officials of WSC Oberwiesenthal, the German Ski Association, and the International Ski Federation. But everything is done clearly in the interest of athlete safety and under the premise that fair competitions take place.”

The fact that the Summer Grand Prix of Nordic Combined means a lot to Peter Riedel is also underlined by the fact that he and his company support the event with great dedication and financial strength. “In Oberwiesenthal is my family, I grew up there myself. This is my homeland, the Fichtelberg ski jump is my heart’s affair. I will use all my resources to ensure the Summer Grand Prix is a great success – for the athletes, the spectators, the organizers, for all of us!”
