As soon as the Four Hills Tournament was over, the people responsible in Garmisch-Partenkirchen were already looking to the next season: it is not enough to have one of the most modern hills with the most advanced approach system; now the Bavarians were also fine-tuning the start bar. As soon as the Four Hills Tournament was over, the people responsible in Garmisch-Partenkirchen were already looking to the next season: it is not enough to have one of the most modern hills with the most advanced approach system; now the Bavarians were also fine-tuning the start bar. First tested for the Germany Cup of ski jumpers in Garmisch, the start bar meets the high standards of the tournament organizers.

The start bar developed by Peter Riedel GmbH in cooperation with Jürgen Kreise is completely different from previous variants. The entry of the jumpers into the track is further simplified by a rolling mechanism. Instead of the previous push-off or take-off onto the inrun track, athletes in the new system sit on a roller board, which greatly facilitates track entry.

The system was presented to the International Ski Federation FIS during the Four Hills Tournament. Miran Tepeš, assistant to the ski jumping director Walther Hofer, was able to personally form an impression of the system before it was tested in competition for the Germany Cup the following week with the support of the Partenkirchen Ski Club. The next competition application for the modern start bar will be the Continental Cup in February in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

“I assume that by March we will have completed all necessary test runs under training and competition conditions and will also be able to use the start bar at larger events,” says Peter Riedel. “Crucial for success and the best possible implementation are the indications we receive from the athletes and from SC Partenkirchen. I am personally very curious to see what the coming weeks will bring in this regard.”
