New Tracks at Holmenkollen
Summer time is vacation time, but not for us! While others enjoy their well-deserved holidays and let the sun shine on their heads in the south, we are already in the middle of our next project.
Summer time is vacation time, but not for us! While others enjoy their well-deserved holidays and let the sun shine on their heads in the south, we are already in the middle of our next project. And that is currently far from sunshine and hot temperatures; rather the rain has been pouring over our heads for days. Well, the weather up here in the north is anything but stable. The last three weeks we spent in Norway high above Oslo to finalize our next trace project.
While the Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Oslo has grown into the international hotspot of the ski jumping scene thanks to its extraordinary architecture and spectacular location, its little sister Midstubakken is far less well known. Located just a few meters beside the Holmenkollen, Oslo's landmark, the winter sports facility Midtstuen offers perfect training conditions mainly for the Nachwuchs (young talents) and has become a valuable training center for the Norwegian Ski Federation in recent years.
And that brings us to our current assignment. Midtstuen is far from unknown to us. Last year we built a take-off track on the normal hill there as part of our first Spur-Upcycling project. The old track from Trondheim was revitalized and reinstalled on the Normal hill at Midtstubakken. (We reported ->https://bit.ly/3DwogTz)
Now follow the two smaller hills with hill sizes of 44 and 66 meters; for us they are also the first two hills at Holmenkollen in the Nachwuchsbereich (young athletes’ category). In a construction period of almost ten days, during which we endured everything from torrential rain to wind and sun, the HS66 has now been completed. The smaller of the two, HS44, will follow in September.
While our Norwegian project list with the facility at Midtstuen continues to grow, the circle in Oslo slowly closes for us. The grand dame of winter sports, the Holmenkollen Ski Jump, we already equipped in 2017 with our Mastertrack track; in 2022 and 2023 followed the two hills at Midtstuen.
“The two smallest jumps at Midtstubakken are still missing, but otherwise Holmenkollen is slowly but surely firmly in ‘Riedel’s’ hands,” grins Peter Riedel and tightens the last screw into the track module.
We would like to thank the hill team on site for the perfect collaboration and also the Norwegian Ski Association for the trust. So many joint projects connect incredibly, and we could not imagine a better cooperation.
Yours Peter Riedel GmbH
