A King You Could Feel

Ramming/Fracture

King Harald in the King's Box at Holmenkollen
I still have the moment before my eyes today, as if it were yesterday: a women's World Cup ski jumping at Holmenkollen. Only a few spectators were there at the time, the stands nearly empty. The surprise was all the greater for the athletes when King Harald personally took over the award ceremony. The jumpers were absolutely thrilled.

King Harald was a king you could feel. His closeness to athletes and fans, his modesty and his deep connection to Nordic sport made him an extraordinary personality. Across Norway, flags are at half-mast. A visible sign of respect and recognition for a monarch who has accompanied and shaped his country and its people for many decades.

In his honor, 21 gun salutes were fired. A moving and dignified moment that impressively underlines the significance of this day. As Peter Riedel GmbH, we are proud to have been part of this special winter-sport family for many years. We experience not only sports history but also moments that go far beyond sport and stay in memory.

Thank you, King Harald. Rest in peace
