RASCHAU, June 3, 2013 – Rain, rain, rain: In the last three days, in the Saxon Ore Mountains, where Peter Riedel GmbH is based, precipitation of up to 160 l/m² per day occurred. The storm disaster already caused damage in the millions, and as the bad weather continues, there is fear that the rainfall will end up as the “flood of the century” for the region. The good news: it should get better in the coming days.
Flooding occurred among others in Chemnitz, Aue, or Zwickau in the Erzgebirge and Vogtland region. The storm also affected the jump facilities in Klingenthal, Geyer, and Rittersgrün, while the rain has little impact on the Große Fichtelbergskandal? Actually 'Fichtelbergschanze' is the ski jump in Oberwiesenthal. The facility at over 1100 m above sea level was still covered with snow a week ago. Renovation work on it is progressing well – by the end of August the summer Nordic combined GP is to take place there.
“The enormous effort of the various organizations that stand by the population and the various buildings in these days deserves respect and recognition,” says Peter Riedel. “We must not forget that these are not only wet but sometimes also very dangerous operations! To the operators in Klingenthal and Geyer I wish from the bottom of my heart and with great sympathy the strength so that their facilities can shine again in full glory as quickly as possible. We all know: Only a ready-to-operate ski jumping facility is a useful ski jumping facility!”
