RASCHAU/HINZENBACH, May 14, 2013 – At the start of summer, the small town of Hinzenbach in Upper Austria hosts a flurry of activity around the ski jumping hills: on the days when the facilities are reorganized and, because they’re at it, also modernized.

RASCHAU/HINZENBACH, May 14, 2013 – At the start of summer, the Upper Austrian town Hinzenbach around the ski jumping hills is bustling: on those days when the facilities are restructured and, since they’re at it, modernized as well. And so it happened again this year. A few weeks ago the K90m facility, which is already top-modern, received an extra coat of paint.

Demontaged were by company employee Wolfgang Riedel and his crew the bases of the approach track and its studs; two new plates were screwed on, the newest and best porcelain studs from Peter Riedel GmbH were installed – studs that represent the current non-plus-ultra in jump track technology. Along with this, the irrigation system was also changed. Only the cooling system was not touched. “But this too will be maintained regularly according to legal requirements,” explains Bernhard Zauner, chairman of the Hinzenbach Union Volksbank.

Zauner looks forward to a busy and exciting summer. “After the facilities in Villach, our hills here in Hinzenbach are the second most frequented in Austria during the summer months,” he says. “Our disadvantage is that we cannot offer a complete stadium, because a K65m hill is missing. Therefore clubs cannot bring all their jumpers.” But it’s a complaint at a high level; Zauner is “very satisfied with the utilization.”

As autumn approaches, more and more teams set up in Hinzenbach, until in late autumn there are 30 days with full utilization: jumps in the morning and afternoon by various club and federation teams, or also by (mainly female) national teams. The summer Grand Prix on September 29 does not yet cast a shadow, but preparatory work has already begun. “We have organized this competition several times, we are a well-coordinated team and have the know-how,” Zauner says. “Year by year it gets easier, while we also continue to learn.”

He can be sure that the track will hold. For in Hinzenbach the ice track from Peter Riedel has set the “heat record”: at almost 30 degrees Celsius the Austrian championships were held on October 9, 2010. And the track held!
