VIKERSUND - 253.5 meters, never before has a person jumped as far as yesterday when the Austrian Stefan Kraft achieved it in team flying at Vikersund. With this insane distance he equaled the record of 252 meters recently set by Norwegian ski jumper Robert Johansson on the 'Monsterbakken' – two world records in one day, Vikersund has not seen that yet either.
The reason for this is, besides the athletes’ (nerve) strength, mainly the new track that has been laid on the world’s largest ski flying hill for a few weeks. The new ice track by Erzgebirgische Peter Riedel GmbH enables a fast, even, and fair approach feeling throughout the competition – without compromising the safety of the athletes.
“This is already a strong thing. We had hoped our track would set new standards, but this “record flood,” as the media calls it, still surprised us,” says managing director Peter Riedel. Congratulations didn’t take long: “as smooth as a child’s bottom,” praised the “awesome track” from the athletes’ and officials’ circles. Who knows, perhaps the last word on the world record has not yet been spoken!
