OBERWIESENTHAL - When on Friday, September 12, 2014, Oberwiesenthal’s currently largest construction project, the Kulturzentrum Wiesenthaler K3, is ceremonially opened, we will also have captured a piece of Oberwiesenthal winter sports for eternity. The new cultural center in the former Royal Saxon Forest Office will, in addition to other facilities such as a library and guest information, also include a permanent exhibition designed as a ski museum.
Anchored in Oberwiesenthal and the Ore Mountains, Peter Riedel GmbH and the behind-the-scenes Riedel winter sports family support this ambitious project. Peter Riedel GmbH has donated track models for summer and winter to the museum to help shape the exhibition on the sport’s development at the Fichtelberg. The same model of the original double-track system is also currently on the new K95 ski jump at the Fichtelberg, making it a true highlight of the exhibition. In addition, racing skis from Eberhard Riedel’s father will provide insight into long-gone elite alpine sports times of Saxon mountain sports. Eberhard Riedel will also be part of the K3 “Hall of Fame,” where video recordings will recall the greatest sports successes and developments at the Fichtelberg – including those of the Riedel family, whose impressive sports and family history is described in the museum-exhibited 2013 book “Spuren des Erfolgs.”
