Café König - A traditional business with a love for sport

It is well known that sport brings people together. Since 1925, Café König has stood in the best location of the spa town Oberwiesenthal, almost a century! A special friendly bond has developed in recent years between the traditional cafe and Peter Riedel. Frank Weber as owner and his team run the house already in the fourth generation and, like us, have a great love for sport.

Not for nothing is Frank Weber one of the co-founders of the 'Café König Cup' as part of the Summer Grand Prix for Nordic Combined in Oberwiesenthal. In 2010, it was the then race director Ulrich Wehling who, together with Café König, founded the cup. Since then it has been an integral part of the Summer Grand Prix in Oberwiesenthal. Nordic combined greats like Johannes Rydzek, Bernhard Gruber, Eric Frenzel or Akito Watabe have already accepted the prize and the associated cake, which is always presented with media flair. Although the big trophy remains as a traveling trophy in the Skimuseum Oberwiesenthal, each of them has already taken home a small keepsake in the form of a mini trophy. Also not to forget is the financial commitment from Café König, which goes hand in hand with the trophy sponsorship and provides an important financial boost for the organizer.

Besides the love for sport, it is above all the love for detail that you find in the delicious specialties Frank offers with his wife Antje at his glass-front counter. From tasty cakes to homemade Italian ice cream to the unique, original Erzgebirgische cake, there is something for everyone here. No wonder the cafe was chosen as one of Germany's best cafes by the Fachportal Feinschmecker in 2018 and 2021. And with son Patrick, who as a trained cook takes on a key role in the operation, the fifth generation is already poised to continue this impressive run. The Weber family is always striving to balance tradition and modernity, which is evident not only in their wide range. Consistent expansions and modernization show that they want to stay on the cutting edge.
