RASCHAU/REPORTED IN ADELBODEN, April 29, 2014 – Whenever ski jumping hill expert Peter Riedel is in Switzerland, he is irresistibly drawn to Adelboden. There his father Eberhard achieved something historic in 1961: the DDR athlete won the giant slalom on one of the most historic spots in alpine skiing, and he remained the only German to do so until 2014!

“The DDR athletes and the sport-political controversies surrounding them certainly contributed to Adelboden’s international renown,” says Eberhard Riedel in the book “Traces of Success,” which he co-authored with his son Peter. “Clearly, we became friends for life,” adds Peter. The work has swept through the Adelboden community, and Peter Riedel’s meeting with Annerösli Zryd, also a former world-class skier and downhill world champion in 1970, turned out warm and friendly recently. Sachsen (Saxony) and Adelboden are forever linked, as stated by both sides. The obvious proof of this close relationship is Eberhard Riedel’s footprint on the “Place of Fame.” The cost of its creation was once covered by the owner of Hotel Kreuz, the Josée and Bernhard Rosser family.

Peter Riedel will soon come back to Adelboden; after all, he is professionally involved with his sports-technology company in Kandersteg. He will also bring along the “Traces of Success” again. “The book is in high demand in Switzerland,” he reports with satisfaction, “it spans from the alpine skiing history of the 1960s to today’s ski jumping hill construction.”

Don’t worry: You don’t have to travel to Switzerland to obtain this book! You can also find it at www.amazon.de!
