A story full of passion, commitment and unforgettable moments. That is why Eberhard Riedel he wants to seize the opportunity and celebrate everyone involved. He would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all who contributed back then and still burn for alpine skiing today. THANK YOU for everything we have achieved together at the Fichtelberg for our spa town Oberwiesenthal — it has not been seen in this form before!

Even though those were difficult times and the alpine development was greatly restrained with the founding of the GDR: the early days of alpine skiing in the 1950s and 1960s laid the foundation for the rapid development of both recreational sports and elite sports in Oberwiesenthal. Oberwiesenthal was nicknamed Saxony’s St. Moritz back then.

On this occasion we would like to celebrate an exclusive evening of remembrance, recognition and community next weekend. In cooperation with our good friend Frank Weber from the traditional Cafe König, where the celebrations will take place, we can welcome a selected circle of 50 people who will revive the alpine tradition from the Fichtelberg.

In addition to the alpine protagonists from back then (Eberhard Riedel, Ernst Scherzer, Peter Lützendorf, Helmut Heym), the mayor of Lauter, Thomas Kunzmann, and almost all invited guests have confirmed their attendance. The moderation will be handled by none other than the well-known MDR sports reporter Michael Drevenstedt, who will lead through various program items. The invited guests will be guided through a time‑travel tour of alpine history in Kurort Oberwiesenthal and can look forward to an entertaining evening.

The timing for the event could not be better, for on the very same weekend the alpine Ski World Cup opens the season a few hundred kilometers further south in Sölden… ideal prerequisites for a successful event!

We are looking forward to it!
