Peter Riedel
Formal appreciation of 70 years of alpine competitive sport
Yesterday evening we brought a piece of alpine history back to life
Yesterday evening we brought a piece of alpine history back to life! Over 50 invited guests followed my father Eberhard Riedel's invitation to Cafe König and spent a nice evening in the spirit of remembrance of old times. The centerpiece of the event was the appreciation of alpine skiing in Kurort Oberwiesenthal. In the 1950s and 1960s, it formed the basis for the rapid development of both recreational and elite sports in Oberwiesenthal.
Since this topic has been given far too little attention lately, Eberhard Riedel together with his then associates launched this wonderful evening. While Eberhard “Ebs” Riedel, Ernst Scherzer and Peter Lützendorfer shared anecdotes from the era, delicious food was eaten, drinks were drunk, and laughter rang out. The host Frank Weber from Cafe König was and is the best address when it comes to the authentic orientation of such an evening. Top athletes still come and go at his place, and his commitment to sport is unparalleled.
At the same time, it is also very nice to see how other businesses in Oberwiesenthal take up the alpine spirit and embed it in their houses. First and foremost Hans Pankl with his RathausHotel Oberwiesenthal, which keeps a large part of its decoration in the hotel and in the rooms with alpine pictures from back then.
The moderation was taken over by MDR sports reporter Michael Drevenstedt, who deftly guided the evening through various program items. Guests were led on a time travel through alpine history in Kurort Oberwiesenthal and could look forward to a entertaining evening.
We would like to say THANK YOU again to everyone who was there and celebrated with us!
It certainly was not the last event of this kind, so much can be said :-)
